Introduction:History of the Indian capital market can be traced back to periods even before the formation of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in 1875. Size of the Indian capital market remained small during the early post-independence period, until in the 1960s financial institutions like LIC, GIC and UTI (the first mutual fund of India) came into existence. Economic reforms of the 1990s ushered in the economic liberalisation in India. Indian parliament passed the SEBI Act and Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) replaced the Controller of Capital Issues (CCI) in the year 1992 as the new regulatory authority. National Stock Exchange (NSE) was formed in the year 1992 and recognised in 1993 as stock exchange. NSE's Wholesale Debt Market segment and Capital Market (Equities) segment started functioning in the year 1994 and in 2000 the Derivative segment was initiated. MCX Stock Exchange (MCX-SX), regulated by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and Reserve Bank of India (RBI), came into existence in 2008, transforming the Indian Capital Market into one of the prominent capital market of the emerging countries...
